Notrium
In Notrium, the player takes control of a crash landed pilot on an alien planet. Naturally, co-inhabiting the planet with a species of FEROCIOUS aliens isn't high on Mr. Pilot's to-do list, and so it is up to you to make sure he gets out of his miserable situation...in once piece.
Notrium can be described as an extremely dumbed down version of Crimsonland and Nethack. Just like in Crimsonland, there are lotsa aliens to be disposed of, and you do so from behind a very similar mouse-keyboard control scheme. The Nethack-ish end of the game is very basic, involving keeping warm by day, avoiding heat stroke at night, and keeping yourself fed, while collecting and combining items to help you on your noble quest. While constantly keeping up with the chores should be a real nuisance, it's not; because Notrium ends exactly when it should. It won't keep you entertained for hours on end, but you will get a very solid couple of hours out of it the first time you play, providing you dig the game in the first place. The only real problem I have with Notrium is that, while those 2 hours it takes to beat the game on the harder difficulty are quite enjoyable, I can't really see myself going back anytime soon to try again. There are a couple of different ways to beat the game...but I'm not very tempted to go back and try. There just isn't enough new material the second time around. There is word that the author, Ville Monkkonen, plans to update the game, with more items, enviroments, weapons, and monsters; and maybe then the game will be worthy of second and third playthroughs, and a 10/10 score.

Racer
Racer, despite the unoriginal name, is a very nice 3D racing game for 1 or 2 players. You have a nice variety of cars, tracks and various styles of play, pluss, the graphics and sounds are very well done, wich combined, gives you a nice fun gaming experience.
In the single player option, you can choose between career mode, training mode, and a cup. While playing career mode, your goal is to win money to buy new and better cars that you can use in furture races. In training, you basicly just race on various tracks, and try to beat the AI. The cup mode is very similar to career mode, the only differences being that you can customize the game settings more and that you can't buy a new car throughout the cup. The multiplayer mode is almost the same, just that you don't have career mode. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try this mode, even though it seemed like alot of fun.
I found both the graphics and sound very good, and I can't really think of much too improve. The AI was also well written, which is something that lacks in today's games of this genre. So, if your a racing game lover, this is a game for you!
NOTE: There's a Czech version of the game at the author's homepage. Also, if you browse the Czech version of the website, you'll have access to more games than if you use the English one, plus you can view the source code.

Strategy 3: The Dark Legions
Strategy 3 is a real-time strategy game that plays just like Warcraft3 and Age of Empires, maybe a little too similar. But what the heck, ain't Warcraft3 and Age of Empires the best of their kind? Expect Strategy 3 to be a masterpiece, a champion in the freeware scene.
Gameplay is very similar to Warcraft3 and AOE. Fans of these games will find the controls of Strategy 3 to be very familiar.
Especially where Warcraft3 is concerned, most of its concepts have been used here. Even the loading screen looks like the one in Warcraft2. While Strategy 3 won't score points for originality, the 'Warcrafish' gameplay already makes up for it. Not to mention the game is much easier to handle for older machines, so the speed is much better here if you don't mind the graphics.
The author has actually bothered to make this game 3d! It all depends on personal taste. I found the graphics to be good, clean and easy on the eyes, but some will comment that they are a little too dull and shabby. The details in this game are also commendable. Units really move and work. You can also see the progress of the buildings being worked on.
The sound is clear and good. There is a lack of music which I think could improve the game's atmosphere especially for an RTS like this.
While Strategy 3 is almost a flawless masterpiece (in freeware standards of course), the game is very buggy. Expect plenty of crashes during the game. The lack of a save feature makes things even worst. And pressing the esc button will immediately exit the game without any prompting. These buggy issues will keep me from giving this game a ten.
Summing up, a must download for freeware gamers!!! :)

The Breakdown
The full name of this game is THE BREAKDOWN: A SNACK-SIZED ADVENTURE GAME, and as the name suggest, this game is pretty short. But don't let that turn you off, The Breakdown is easily one of the best freeware adventure game I've ever seen.
This game is very similar to LucasArts adventure games(partly because this game was developed with AGAST). Your task is to examine everything that you can find around the area which will help you solve your problem. However, this is no easy feat, especially when some items are hidden in areas where you will least expect them to appear. But don't fret, because completing this game is extremely rewarding and chances are you will enjoy the challenge of this game.
The graphics and presentation is pure 2d goodness. In fact, they can even be compard with commercial ones like the Freddy Fish series! The introduction was also fantastic, it sort of feels like a cartoon show if you ask me.
I wished there was some speech in this game, however the music and sound in this game should suffice. I really liked the opening theme, which is kind of 'rockish'.
Finally, i would just like to mention that the official website has a walkthrough there in case you get stuck. However, I recommend that you do without it first if you want to fully enjoy the fun of solving this game by yourself, After all thats what adventure games are all about! :)

Wrath of the Sea King
Headaches are bad. So bad and painful, for the hero of Wrath of the Sea King, they were driving him crazy. Searching for a cure, in 1900 he found a magic pendant which seemed good for the purpose; but it made him immortal, with the headaches remaining. Now this adventurer, who later became known as Dust, is searching for some way to die. After years of unfruitful tries, he finds out that the god Poseidon possesses what he needs. The story is narrated in the "Dust Sketches": they deserve a look before you play, since they are great hand-drawings.
The main objective of the game is advancing through Poseidon's palace, finally reaching the Sea King in person: in between, you'll find that every room has a different challenge to offer, and, at times, some bosses eager to whack Dust to bits. Some rooms involve a simple slaughtering of monsters, by throwing knives at them, or avoidance of devilish traps and obstacles; others are puzzle rooms where your brain will be more important than any muscle. The designers really had a lot of creativity, and spent it all designing the game: variety is one of the keywords, you'll never find a challenge similar to a previous one, and some are even original. You will be on a strange boat in a section, in the last part of the second of the three "acts" the game is divided into you can take different paths, each with his own challenges, and for a while you will be even transformed in a super-human creature, too. No fear to be bored.
The character of Dust is made of a small bunch of pixels, really too small, maybe: I won't be surprised if you had difficulties in spotting him in the small screenshots here. But don't worry: with the exception of a couple where the same red color used for him predominates, he is always clearly visible on the beautiful and abstract-looking backgrounds. The entire game has a surreal and sometimes disturbed look.
If Dust is sometimes hard to come for the eye, he's certainly not for the ear! In fact, he talks a lot through very good speeches which, due to his harsh voice, have a definite Duke Nukem flavour.
Controls are standard Game Factory fare (you can reconfigure them, though): arrows, Shift, Ctrl. In some rooms full of monsters to kill, you can use the numeric keypad to make Dust move and shoot independently, like in Robotron and Smash TV.
You have unlimited lives, which is coherent since Dust is an immortal; for this reason, reaching the end won't take long. The difference lies in how many times you die in the process. You can't be slaughtered too much if you want to see the entire ending sequence. Here lies the real challenge: finding a way, in every room, to die the less possibile times, if not at all. Very good replayability here. There are rooms looking semi-impossibile at first, becoming a breeze after you find the best strategy to pass them; I find this very gratifying.
But there's a stain. Beware of the screen before the final confrontation, since it's quite buggy. Try to stay in the center because, if you are on the edges, you could "exit" the screen, with no possibility to move, and thus be forced to restart the entire game. Shame for such a fault, at the end of the game too!
Aside from that problem, Wrath of the Sea King is very recommended.
On a final note, if you are familiar with the older games by Bloodlust Software, of Noggin Knockers and Time Slaughter fame, you will know this game is not stuff for kids: often bloody, some bad language, and some bosses are a bit disturbing.
