Squarez   
Squarez is a super-difficult puzzler that only the most hardcore will get the hang of. Therefore, if you're looking for a way to kill 20 minutes, I suggest you give this game a try when you have some more time on you. But if you want a good puzzle game that will become better and more addictive as you devote more time to it, Squarez may be just what you're looking for.
In Squarez, you have a board of 64 pieces with 3 variations of shape and color. You must link together 4 pieces of the same shape and color in a perfect square in order to gain points, remove pieces from the board (which are replaced by more shapes falling from the top of the screen as soon as they are removed), and add time to an ever-ticking countdown clock. The bigger the square, the more points you get and the more time is added to the timer. If the square is at an unusual angle, you gain double points. When you remove 10 squares (40 pieces) from the board, you move onto the next round. If you can't seem to find any squares to clear on the board, you can press the Panic button to rearrange the pieces. You can use the Panic button three times in a game.
Squarez is well-made and well thought-out, but the game has one rule that I don't quite like: with each consecutive round, the points you gain for removing a square doubles, and the clock runs a little bit faster. At first, the doubling of points may not sound like a bad idea, but it really is. Think about it: You clear lots of large squares, some of them at strange angles. But eventually, time runs out and it's game over. Someone else lasts two rounds longer than you do, but they get there by clearing easy squares. Two rounds ahead of you, the points that person gets for clearing a square of a certain size are quadruple what you would have gotten. Is that fair? I think not. So, how do you distinguish a score of 5,000 from a score of 50,000? You don't. That's why Squarez recieved a 7 and not an 8.
Quite simply, Squarez is an excellent puzzle game, one of the deepest, hardest, and most fun I've ever played. You just have to give it some time. Problem is, I suspect most people won't want to spend three hours playing a freeware game just to get the hang of it. But if you do, I assure you that you won't be disappointed. Unlike other games, I'm not saying you should just try Squarez; I'm saying you should spend hours on end with this gem of a puzzle game to fully appreciate it.
