Building Panic
Okay, first off, I must admit something: I love wierd Japanese games and Building Panic, while not the wierdest, is certainly wierd.
In Building Panic, it is your job to jump from floor to floor on a single screen building painting as many windows as you can before your opponent gets to them. After all the windows are painted, the player who has the most of them painted in his color is the winner.
It's not as simple as it sounds, however, because if you paint a window your color (Blue) and it surrounded by an opponents color, your window will become his. Kinda like the classic board game "Othello".
To stop your opponents from stealing your windows, you are given a few weapons. You can shoot them with what looks like water but I'm not sure, jump on heads, and throw or pound them with hammers that you can pick up. There are bosses, which are pretty cool and challenging, too.
The graphics are a great example of why sometimes, 2D is best in its simplicity. Very colorful and well animated, the graphics and funny characters make the game alot more fun.
The sound is top notch and makes the game more enjoyabl, as well.
Bottom Line: A quirky Japanese game, which is lots of fun and will have you addicted once you get into it. The first few levels are easy, but you will quickly find yourself challenged. Every thing about this game is very nice and I highly recommend it.

Crystal Stacker
This columns clone has various modes of play and settings. I feel that the graphics, sound, and music all work together to give this game a nice feel. However, multiple themes are offered on the download page for those who disagree.

Frozen Bubble
First off, I would like to warn everyone that this game is not easy to install. If you aren't good with computers, don't even bother downloading this game. If you ask me for help getting this game to work, I will ignore you. You are welcome to request help on the GameHippo messageboard. Also, fullscreen mode has been disabled in this version of the game because it doesn't work. If your software won't run this game, you can download a 22MB ISO to place on a CDR (found on the homepage) which has a self-included game system to get the program to work. It'll use up a CDR though and there is no guarantee that it will work.
This game is the most impressive clone of Bust-A-Move I've ever seen. The graphics are very impressive. They have a real nice feel to them and various cool effects make this game look professional. The sound is equally impressive. The game includes 100 levels and a fun two player mode. As would be expected, the gameplay consists of shooting bubbles upwards to form matches of 3 or more bubbles. If you want a professional quality freeware (GPL) game, this is a great choice.
Note:Download links to download page. Source is available on the homepage. You'll probably need to download an additional 10MB or so of stuff in addition to the main download.

RoX
The game company Safrosoft has done a excellent job creating this game. RoX reminisces the classic Boulder-Dash game but with many more ingredients - spicy ingredients! My first wowing came when I saw the animated rolling of the boulders - real cool! The game is packed with smooth cool action and fun, with a pinch of logic thinking required. The game comes with as many as 69 levels of which you can enter only the first 5 levels from the game menu. Your mission is to collect all onions before entering the level portal which will bring you onto the next level. You can also shoot missiles and place bombs. A level editor is includes. This update includes bug fixes and a cheat to unlock all levels.
