Gates of Destiny  
In Gates of Destiny, you play the role of either Amazon (female) or Paladin (male). As in any other role-playing game you have a set of frightful monsters to battle and you have an inventory of various helpful objects that you can use for protection and strength. In the game you will meet six different characters such as flying demons, skeletons and witches. Gates of Destiny has 10 levels. The menu in the game is in English but all other information is in German which may cause difficulty for you. The game is pretty neat with impressive background music that brings you to the medieval era. You control your character with the mouse (click in front of you in the direction you want to move).

Gearbolt Rage: Infinite Pain 
Gearbolt Rage features everything one looks for in an action game: Sweet 2d graphics, loads and loads of blood, weapons of mass destruction, and non-stop intense gameplay. Anyone who visits Gamehippo on a somewhat regular basis has heard of Destruction Carnival (if you haven't, go get it right now, everything else is just a waste of time), one of the most coveted freeware games ever made. Gearbolt is a, as the author calls it, 'tribute' to Destruction Carnival, and it is quite a tribute. The only qualm I have with this game is that the background is very dark so a couple of the darker enemies can be hard to spot with all the hectic moving and shooting going on. After playing for 10 minutes or so this problem lessened somewhat; my eye became trained to notice the difference between the enemies and the background. Other than this, Gearbolt Rage is a real gem, especially for its small file size, and it shouldn't be missed.

Geo Shooters 
Geo Shooters is what happens when a quality Japanese sh'mup (shoot 'em up) meets a great Galaxian clone. In other words, Geo Shooters is awesome.
When the game starts, you�ll notice that the enemies are placed in the same fashion as Galaxian or Space Invaders; they�re stacked on each other, and set side by side. Within a few seconds, however, you'll realize that this is far from a normal Galaxian or Space Invaders clone. Almost instantly the enemy ships will start moving around the screen, shooting, not straight down, but at your ship. You have free movement around the entire screen. After you defeat an enemy, a score-up will drop (like a power-up, except it only effects your score). A boss comes about every three stages, as is the typical arcade style. They aren't that difficult, but they do serve their purpose well. One thing that especially impressed me about this game was the health system. At first it might not seem so innovative, but if you pay close attention to it you'll realize there's something peculiar about this health bar; it recharges, but only if you aren't shooting! This has two benefits: first, it makes the game more strategic. You're going to want to recover health (trust me, there's more than enough enemies to take away some damage), but you'll only be able to if you're not defending yourself. Another benefit to this unique health system is that those lousy cheapskates who never stop shooting in sh'mups (you know who you are) are now at a disadvantage! Take that, losers!
The graphics had a very retro feel. The ship models were good, but the background was a very boring star field that only alternated colors once after each stage. The enemy fire looked very odd, almost like orange octagons. Your lasers looked much like the kind found in games like Power Shooter (also on Game Hippo). The sound was just the basics. There was no music, and the only sound effects were rudimentary cracks and very fake explosions. Neither the graphics nor the sound was anything you haven't seen before.
The Bottom Line: Geo Shooters does something that's very hard to do; it messed around with the arcade-game formula, while still retaining the genuine feel. Games like these are hard to come by, so grab it while you can!
Note 1: Run the game in "window mode"! I had some problems when I didn't, such as my resolution changing.

Gigantic Gear
Not much is known about this Japanese game entitled Gigantic Gear. All information is in Japanese except some essential menu items which makes it possible to play without understanding Japanese. The game doesn't come without merits, and especially the neat options to build your character. I also give the game merit for its good 3D rendering and the graphical FX. One less fortunate limitation is the degree of freedom of the character's moves. You have 3 levels to play, and each level has an indicator "GO" which way you should proceed. Here is a summary of the keyboard controls that I figured out by trial and error: a=fire, w=select weapon, d=vertical flying, q=speed boost, e=swing arm.

Gladiatron 3D
Exellent remake of the classic Tron aracde game, which in turn was based on the Disney movie with the same name from 1982. The rendering of the 3D arena is very cool and especially when you have the freedom to change perspective during the gameplay. The story of Gladiatron 3D is the same as in Tron; There are 2 light cycles which combat against each other on an electronic chip with a grid structure. You drive your cycle over the grid with the goal to block the other cycle and not running off the boundaries (outside the grid). A cycle produces a wall of energy behind it which you cannot run into. You can choose to let player 2 be a computer-generated player or a human player.
