Alex the Allegator 4
Alex the Allegator 4 features stunning monochrome (2-color) graphics. Confused? Allow me to explain.
While there have been quite a few game developers in the past who have attempted to bring back the old-school Gameboy feel to modern PCs, never has one succeeded in the same way that Free Lunch Design does with Alex 4. If you're still 'haunted' by fond memories of games like Mario Land and Balloon Kid, then this is the game for you.
Alex 4 is also one of those rare games that can literally 'be fun for the whole family', because it's not a very hard game to play --it's just a hard game to play well. At the start of the game you are given 3 lives, lose those 3 lives and the game is over. However, you can continue from where ever you 'died', with the only consequence being the loss of your score. I really enjoyed this continue system, as it makes it that much less of a pain to 100% every level, which is a durn hard thing to do, but you'll likely be playing fer hours and hours trying to complete this daunting task anyway. Alex 4 is just that much fun.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it's made by the same guys who bestowed upon us all the blessed goodness of Icy Tower. And that's really all you need to know.

Ata
The full title of this game is "Ata - Extracts from the American Civil War". The game was created by a Finnish team of programmers who calls themselves Badgers. It took them 2 years to finish. Ata is a masterpiece without flaws! It's an awesome wargame with lots of strategy and fun action on the battle field. The graphics and animations are very good with a grain of humor added. I will not go into details about the gameplay because it's well described in the Readme.txt file that comes with the game. But basically, this 2-player game is about the war between the North and the South. One player controls the North troops and the other player controls the South troops. You each start out with only a few stats. There is a neat feature called Observation screen that allows you to look at any state and see what troops are there. I also noticed that in order to move your troops you need to click on the actual soldier for that state and not the state map. This will give you a foot for each state that you can move to. Ata also deals with trading as part of the war strategy. Don't forget that you have to click on the "TURN" icon when you are done with your moves. This game was created with DJGPP.
There is a patch (v1.15) to the download that you need to install too. This patch has a number of features, such as corrects problems with historical menus, improves internal menu handling, adds indians and mexicans, makes footmen capable of stabbing, stabilizes the game and uses VESA-handling code.
You can download the patch here. First you install the regular download, then you install the patch in the same directory. ATA was developed with DJGPP, however VC++ will be the tool of choice for the sequel ATA2.

Brutal: Paws of Fury Remix
Back in the 16-bit Sega and Nintendo days, Brutal: Paws of Fury (Henceforth known as just "Brutal") was released to a whole bunch of hype and alot of mixed reviews. Personally, I thought it was an OK game then, but playing it now it seems that I like it alot more. If you were a "gamer" (I hate that term) around that time you probably have already played, or at least heard of Brutal. Well, now some Dr. M dude has made a remake and, dagnabbit!, it's a good'n.
Brutal is a 2d fighting game in the same vein as the popular Street Fighter and Mortal Konbat series, but the gameplay is different enough to warrant it as more than a rip-off. You take control of one of 12 martial-arts learned animals, each with his/her own strenghts and weaknesses and abilities, and attempt to beat the pants (actually, some of 'em don't wera pants but they're animals so it's OK ;) ) off of your opponents on your quest to...I dunno...become the greatest kung-fu-bunny in the world. The gameplay consists of 3 punch buttons (",; and L) and 3 kick buttons (<, >, and /). Very simple and if you've ever played a 2D fightr before you'll figure out most of the secret moves in no time. Collision detection and response time are spot on, unlike alot of other M.U.G.E.N. games where they are problematic and glitchy. Great stuff gameplay-wise.
The graphics are all excellently done and the animation is great and even humurous if you pay attention to the little details. Every thing is colorful and looks like it is straight from the SNES version (hmm...mebbe cuz they -are- straight from the SNES version). The author even added in his own special effects, which are very cool. Try finishing off someone with a special move behinfd the doors on the Dojo level and ye'll see. There are a fair amount of backrounds, too, but some of them (the aforementioned Dojo level specifally) have object in the foreground that can obstruct your view.
The sound is great, especially the announcer who for sooome reason sounds just like the announcer from a different popular fighting game :p. Good music and effects too.
There are some really cool modes in Brutal, such as a 2-player co-op mode and even a 4 player simultaneous battle. These modes and the multiple difficulty levels definitely boost the replay value up a bunch.
Bottom Line: Prolly the best M.U.G.E.N. game ever, and definitely the best one I have ever played. If you enjoy 1-on-1 (or 2-on-2) fighters then you should download this. Yeeehaw!

Building Panic
Okay, first off, I must admit something: I love wierd Japanese games and Building Panic, while not the wierdest, is certainly wierd.
In Building Panic, it is your job to jump from floor to floor on a single screen building painting as many windows as you can before your opponent gets to them. After all the windows are painted, the player who has the most of them painted in his color is the winner.
It's not as simple as it sounds, however, because if you paint a window your color (Blue) and it surrounded by an opponents color, your window will become his. Kinda like the classic board game "Othello".
To stop your opponents from stealing your windows, you are given a few weapons. You can shoot them with what looks like water but I'm not sure, jump on heads, and throw or pound them with hammers that you can pick up. There are bosses, which are pretty cool and challenging, too.
The graphics are a great example of why sometimes, 2D is best in its simplicity. Very colorful and well animated, the graphics and funny characters make the game alot more fun.
The sound is top notch and makes the game more enjoyabl, as well.
Bottom Line: A quirky Japanese game, which is lots of fun and will have you addicted once you get into it. The first few levels are easy, but you will quickly find yourself challenged. Every thing about this game is very nice and I highly recommend it.

Camy 2 - The Machine!
Well, Camy 2 is a lot like Camy 1, only better in every way. The graphics and levels are more thematic (though not quite as cheery), there are new power-ups, and the levels are scrolling. This game is definitely worth a download.
