rRootage
rRootage was created by the makers of Noiz2sa, which fellow reviewer Da_Goat called a ,"breath of fresh air in the world of Japanese shooters"
because of its abstract like graphics. rRootage does live up to my expectations, it is just as refreshing as Noiz2sa.
The game takes shootem'up to a whole new level with its innovative 4 modes of play, they are: Normal mode, PSY mode, IKA mode and GW mode. I will not go into detail with the modes as explaining this will take quite a long time, but i would like to make a point that this game is really fun because of these modes. The thing that is lacking are real powerups. This is very similar to Warning Forever which I reviewed earlier. In fact, both games play very similar as you only face one enemy at a time and the enemy will re-spawn with improved features.
The graphics are good. The unique emerald-like design of the ships are the first of its kind i've seen. The world is set in a 'cyber-computerish' world just like Warning Forever.
The music is excellent and fits the 'cyber-computerish' world very well. The sound effects are standard stuff.
Summing up, rRootage is an excellent shootem'up. It has incredibly fast gameplay and excellent graphics with music that actually fits the theme.

xSynergy Gate
When I first saw Xsynergy Gate on the internet.
I immediately shunned this off as one of those typical
japanese space shooters game with just some eye candy
but no real gameplay innovations to speak of. And ho
was I wrong. This game is revolutionary in almost
every aspect.
First of, gameplay is quite different from usual. The
game plays from a slightly tilted down view (However
it is still vertical technically). There are the usual
specials, but these specials are quite cool to use in
my opinion. The one that really caught my eye was the
energy rope, which you will have to "grab" your enemy
with, then detonate it. Very cool!
The enemy's are quite typical in my opinion and have
that usual pattern. However their attack patterns are
quite unique, like the ship which sends waves of
energy blasts in a ripple fashion, which is quite fun
to avoid.
Graphics are impressive. Ranging from detailed
spaceships to ultra-neat explosion effects. However
the backgrounds are quite repetitive and dull
during the first part of the game. Not to worry though
as things get better with time. There is also a FPS
display at the top right hand corner. Which is a nice
feature.
The sound sector isn't a high point but gets the job
done.
The program though being a japanese game is quite
straight foward to begin with, not really alot of
options to meddle with except for resolution. And
those who don't like the ZXC control style will be
glad to know that the keys are configurable.
Summing up, Xsynergy Gate is a solid shooter game with
high production values and good innovative features.
Well worth downloading if you are
a shooter fan.
Note: not every screen resolution will work with your
computer. Keep trying till you find one which is
suitable.

.shot ( Dotshot )
.shot, or 'Dotshot' is a throwback to the good old days of handheld gaming when graphics were composed of black and white bricks, assembled to the form of space ships, race cars, pong paddles, or whatever else suited the game's content. Yup, .shot is probably one of the most ancient looking games ye'll find around these parts outside of the ASCII graphics of Nethack and Rogue; which means that the gameplay'd have to be purty durn god in order for it to attain it's 8/10 score and Editor's Choice award. And it is. What .shot lacks in graphics is made up for with sheer originality. Yes, it's a shooter, and yes, it's an aesthetically outdated shooter at that, but what this means is that the designers wasted less time on graphics, and instead spent their time well on the gameplay, which is almost flawless. The difficulty is perfect, the collisions are perfect, the sound is fownky -and maybe even a bit strange, when you hear such fownkiness coming from such an 'ugly' game, and levels are as kick-tushie as I've ever seen in a shooter; they're originally designed, with obstacles that you must maneuver around and some of the best enemy patterns in any shooter out thar to date. Don't be put off by the retro look of the game, if you like shooters at all, .shot deserves a download.
To download the Mac version of .shot, go to the author's homepage, accesible by clicking the game's title in the heading of the review; click on the 'Products' link on the sidebar; click on '.shot' from the list of games; and then just click the link that says 'Mac Version' or sumptin'. There, it's downloadin'.
No, I don't think you're all stupid (not -all- of you, at least)but the web site is in Japanese, and thus the step-by-step to the download link.

BI-NARY
This game has some very interesting and unique special graphical effects that I haven't seen anywhere else, and especially the animated mechanics of the character - very cool! The story revolves around a malicious computer virus that you have to kill. As you explore the virual "binary world", you will encounter other various obstacles so pick up all the health packs you can.

Bachan-On
Bachan-On is a fun game with a weird storyline. In Bachan-On, you play as robotic grandparents trying to rescue their grandson, who is being possessed by Ronald McDonald. Strange, huh? Well, while the storyline is very weird, the gameplay is quite normal. You move your player around an arena, shooting at your opponent. You have three weapons per character at your disposal, which act differently depending on how you move around (jumping, dashing, walking, etc.). There are only two selectable characters, but they are very different from each other. Bachan-On feels like a mech game, and can best be compared to Astraia. And, much like Astraia, youll only have a chance at winning a round with the computer player once youve mastered the controls. Bachan-Ons controls are absolutely horrible, and if you dont get used to them, you may never fully appreciate this game. And no, you cant change them, either. However, if you can get used to the controls, Bachan-On is very fun. Bachan-Ons graphics would have been considered good ten years ago (the game WAS made almost ten years ago, by the way), but by todays standards, they suck. Theyre of the same caliber a blocky first-generation PS1 games graphics. If youve just finished a game of Splinter Cell, the graphics will appall you, but they shouldnt get too annoying. Bachan-Ons sound is pretty good for a freeware game, and again is reminiscent of an old PS1 games. The whirring noises of the mechs are particularly good. So, if you think you an bear the bad graphics and horrible controls, and you arent looking for a game that will take hours and hours to beat, youll probably like Bachan-On. Although, Im sure there will be a good many user comments saying d00d this gaem sux a$$ as well. And, it took me a good five minutes to figure out all the controls, so Ill save you the time and post them here.Player 1s Controls:Select Option (main menu)- EnterWalk forward, backward, and strafe- Home, End, Delete, and Page DownTurn left and right- Insert and Page UpJump- Keypad 5Cancel Jump- Keypad periodAttacks one, two and three- Keypad 2, 3, and 0Dash- Keypad 1 Player 2s Controls:Walk forward, backward, and strafe- W, S, A, and DTurn left and right- Q and EJump- RCancel Jump- V Attacks 1, 2, and 3- F, G, and CDash- X
