UrthWurm
Here we have an extremely simple game containing a worm that you control as it moves forward in a cave of obstacles. If you hit any obsctacle or the cave wall the game ends. This 10-level game is not only a kid-safe game, I would say that it's a child oriented game. So UrthWurm will present itself too monotonously unless you are a kid who doesn't have the ability to simultaneously coordinate many game elements. The author mentions that this game was intended to be a quick clone of the PC game called SFCave (by SunFlat).

Blocks 2001
Blocks 2001 brings you into a fabulated world of a happy flatish smiley guy who walks and jumps across various narrow paths and staircases to collect all diamonds. It's really neat how you are projected into the game scene with a moving 3D perspective. The game is accompanied by joyful sound effects. This is an English edition of Blocks 2001 that was especially made for Gamehippo (only available on our site).
| PC REQUIREMENTS: DirectX 8.1, Windows98 or later, 3D videocard |

Dink Smallwood
Dink Smallwood was re-released as freeware in October 1999. In this 25Mb game, you control Dink Smallwood, a pig farmer. Although he is a peasant, he dreams of going on an adventure to prove that he is a great hero. This game is lots of fun and quite humorous as well. This game occasionally gives you choices about whether to be a good person or not, which makes it a poor game for younger children. For example, Dink may choose to allow his aunt to be beaten by his uncle and even may encourage it. Even the name of the game/protagonist has pejorative connotations. Although this, the blood, and a few strange scenes make this game a little bit twisted, Dink is incredibly fun and has various features like spells, weapons, items, shops, experience and level ups. Best of all, Dink features a dmod creator and player. This feature allows you to play even more Dink worlds than the two worlds that it comes with. These dmods often continue Dink's adventure, but the dmod editor is versatile enough that other types of games such as Arkanoid can be created. If you have a sense of humor and enjoy RPG's, you will love Dink Smallwood. More dmods may be downloaded at the Dink homepage or at various fan pages. Click here to download the beta patch (1.07). Users of newer versions of windows (WinME, Win2K, etc.) may need this patch.

Doukutsu Montogari~ Cave Story
Have you ever played a freeware game with so much fun and so much replay value that it stands alongside commercially-made classics? Doukutsu Montogari is that kind of game. Its an action/adventure title complete with appropriately challenging levels, a decent story, and a fair amount of weapons.
Although in the front-page description I stated that it plays like Metroid, the game actually plays much more like a little-known PS1 game called Silhouette Mirage. If youve played that, youll find the triangle-shaped mana tokens, obscure character design, and multiple endings to be very familiar. But assuming you havent, Ill tell you what the games about.
In Doukutsu, you start out by awaking in a small cave, not knowing your name or where you came from. You soon find out that you are on a large floating island inhabited by small rabbit-like creatures called Mimigas. You then learn that a villain called The Doctor is trying to capture them in order to create a Mimiga army. When you have completed about 1/4 of the game, you will start to choose your own path through the story. Thats the beauty of it; by answering simple yes-or-no questions during dialogue, you decide what levels you go to, what weapons you receive, and how the game ultimately ends. You can upgrade your weapons on-the-go by collecting triangle-shaped mana tokens from fallen foes. The weapons will downgrade when you are damaged while carrying them. But dont worry; leveling up is a simple process.
Doukutsu really doesnt suffer from any problems. You may not like the old-school graphics or sounds, but many will welcome the classic flavor. In my opinion, the game easily beats a few Nintendo classics, and even the game it is clearly inspired by, Silhouette Mirage. In the 6+ hours that I played, I never once encountered a bug, and the story and gameplay kept me interested throughout. With the occasional large amount of enemies on the screen, it may slow down once or twice on older computers, but it should run just fine. Its even friendly to your hard drive, with a size of 395 KB zipped, and 5 MB unzipped.
If youre an old-school gamer, enjoyed Silhouette Mirage or Metroid, or if youre just looking for a game that will keep your attention for more than an hour, I suggest you download Doukutsu today.
NOTE: Download links to an English website where you can download both the game and the English patch. As Doukutsu Montogari is a story-based action game, its pretty much useless without the patch.
| PC REQUIREMENTS: Should run on almost any PC with minor slowdown |

Egoboo
Egoboo is really an awesome Zelda type game with very nice graphics and sounds (even human voices)! You walk around in this dungeon place with 3 dimensional rooms fighting with creatures using your weapons and magic spells and more.
There are 3 different character to play (Adventurer, Wizard, and Healer) each with certain inventory and powers. Read the Egoboo.txt file for the details. It will take you many hours to get a full insight in all the features of the game. Up to 3 players can play at the same time using the same keyboard.
This game can be played with or without a 3D video card. If your computer don't have hardware 3D support, then you can edit the file called Setup.txt. On the line that says Direct3D Device, change the word HAL to AMP. This will enable software mode, which is much slower but playable. As a final note, this game is 99% finished but when I played it, it felt like a finished version so you will probably never notice that.
