  MindArms
MindArms is a great 2D fighter, one of the best freeware fighting games I've played! It's got smooth character animations, a gameplay style that anyone can grasp after only a few minutes of play, and catchy music. What more do you need? A more in-depth review? Ok...read on! MindArms' gameplay is fast, fun, and easy to learn. Unlike the complicated button presses used for special moves in games like Street Fighter, MindArms' special attacks are executed by pressing only a couple of keys in order. But don't think that you can just perform one attack over and over again to win; the AI is fairly aggressive compared to what is found in other freeware fighters, even if it won't offer a great challenge. MindArms has only five characters available from the start, but each is very unique (most fighting games like to use variations of the same character and give them different names), though the small roster of fighters may annoy some. It must also be noted that the game uses a distinctly Japanese style. I think that three of the characters are guys and the other two are girls, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong. You won't find any big, muscular guys in this game, just girly men. MindArms' graphics are very good, and could compete with most 2D commercial fighting games on the market today. Also, the character animations are very fluid, and could easily beat most 2D commercial fighting games. Without a doubt, MindArms is real eye candy. MindArms' sound is the average stuff you would find in any other fighting game, and the music is slightly above average. The game's got some catchy tunes, but none that really stand out. Needless to say, you won't be annoyed by MindArms' sound and music, but you won't be amazed, either.Overall, MindArms is a great fighting game, one of the best fighting games you can download for free. If you don't think you'll be annoyed by the Japanese style or small roster of fighters, MindArms is worth the download. Also, at only 5 MB, it beats the filesize of most free 2D Japanese fighters by a mile! MindArms may not be quite as good as, say, Fighters Kyodotai, but are you willing to download an 80 MB fighter that's only a bit better than a 9 MB fighter? If not, then MindArms is worth your time. UPDATE: New character added: Eiger
PC REQUIREMENTS: A good PC, maybe 3 or 4 years old

  Ms Blitzman
Ms Blitzman is a neat pacman game created in Blitz BASIC. It's a faithful creation that pretty much has kept the traditions of the classic Ms Pacman game. The fruits that you collect will give you extra power. The zoom feature is a speed booster (press the spacebar key or fire button with joystick control). The zoom meter gets refilled by eating prizes. The game comes with a map editor, which is always appreciated. NOTE: Ms Blitzman was especially compiled for gamehippo.com, so in a sense this game is a rarity on the Internet.
PC REQUIREMENTS: Hardware acceleration, 450 MHz CPU

  Pacguy 2 Part 2: Pagoon
Pacguy 2 Part 2:Pagoon features similar, but far superior, gameplay mechanics to it's predeccesor, Pacguy 2. Since Part 2:Pagoon is (obviously) a continuation of part 1, that game (also available on Gamehippo) should be played first. PGP2:P is a pretty short game (it can be beaten in under 20 minutes) but it's a fun 20 minutes and most people will probably give it another go once their done. The level design is a thing of pulchritude, which, for those who don't have a dictionary handy, is a good thing. For more on the basics of Pacguy's gameplay please read the Pacguy 2 review. For the lazy, suffice to say that even if you hate Pacman chances are ye'll like this. It's pretty much an action game with the basic Pacman rules implemented. Good stuff, ungh-hungh. The conclusion of the Pacguy 2 trilogy, Pacula's Curse, is shareware. The first 10 levels can be downloaded at the author's homepage

  Pacman 3D
This game is a mixture of two game worlds: Pacman and Doom. You basically wander in a 3D maze in an attempt to collect all dots on each level (a total of 15 levels). You can transform into super-pacman with certain powerups that you eat. Naturally there are the traditional ghosts too that you have to take into account. The graphics are enhanced with nice textures, fogging and various cool lighting effects. NOTE: You may encounter difficulties to make this game run smoothly. Even though my test PC has a fairly common videocard and a decent amount of RAM, the FPS was very low.
PC REQUIREMENTS: 3D videocard with OpenGL support, Java (version 1.3/1.4) installed

  Pakoon! 2
Ever drive a Mercedes-Benz down mount Everest? No? Neither have I. But it would probably be pretty fun...up until the minute you die, anyways. Pakoon! 2 gives you the chance to drive one of seven cool cars down one of seven beautiful mountains, ranging across the whole world. The game throws all realism out the window in the name of fun, as you'll speed down impossibly steep slopes at 200 MPH without ever losing traction. The real draw about this game is that it actually feels like you're going 200 MPH, a feat that some commercial games don't even accomplish. There are 3 modes in Pakoon! 2: Speed Race, Slalom, and Air Time, but you'll probably spend most of your time in Speed Race. The other modes are ok, but not as fun as Speed Race. Sadly, the game doesn't have computer AI to race against, forcing you instead to race against your own track ghost. If there were computer opponents, Pakoon! 2 might have achieved a perfect score. Even still, racing against a track ghost is more fun in this game than it is in many others, so Pakoon! 2 scores a solid 8/10. Pakoon! 2's graphics are really a sight to behold. Even on the low-quality setting, each car is very detailed and every mountain looks sharp. There's even a day and night setting to choose from! Without a doubt, Pakoon! 2 looks as good as some of todays commercial games. Pakoon! 2's sound is merely ok, and doesn't really add to- or subtract from- the experience. The game plays one tune over and over, no matter what mountain you're on. Luckily, it's not a bad tune, actually sort of catchy. Pakoon! 2 is a fast and fun racer with beautful graphics and above average gameplay. I just wish there were some more racers on the mountain with me, instead of a track ghost. So therefore, Pakoon! 2 scores a solid 8/10.
PC REQUIREMENTS: Windows 98 or higher, 750 MHz CPU, 128 MB memory, GeForce 2 graphics card or higher
