Binary Zoo has no illusions that this game is innovative, and had no idea it was going to be fun. Put simply, this is a base shooter with eye-catching, acid-trip graphics.
You are some sort of circle with a gun on it, battling against other circles. Scary, huh? The objective of the game is to, by killing enemies, color the entire screen the opposite of what it started (either white or black). Enemies, when destroyed, leave a burst of color. When you perish, however, you destroy some of the color.
There are basic items, and as you go on, your weapon may become more powerful if you gather the appropriate items. What really interests me is this: If an enemy travels over Red, they will more likely fire at you. If they pass over Green, they will become faster, and on contact with Blue, the enemies will come after you.
If you are into mindless blasting, download this now.
| PC REQUIREMENTS: DirectX9.0b or higher. |

America's Army Pack
America's Army is probably the only freeware FPS with a massive, constantly populated server. Users cannot play in roles they have not trained under (in single player mode) so most people will be reasonably skilled even on their first multiplayer game. For example, a player will not be given a role involving jumping from aircraft unless they have successfully passed training tests in such jumps. America's Army is designed as a simulation and has a lot of (skippable) information on the army, giving it a very strong storyline. The realism of the game makes this game less enjoyable for those who are not skilled in FPSs. Sniping and camping cannot realistically be discourages and one-shot kills are quite possible. Fans of Goldeneye: 007 will probably enjoy this game far more than fans of Doom.
Download links to download page.
Note: As of this review, Homelan has a contract with the Army that states that it will not give your information to the US Army. You do not need to give the army your information in order to get or use this game. However, you must register with Homelan in order to play it.
This game does not contain excessive gore. However, because the violence is very realistic, this game is marked as violent.
| PC REQUIREMENTS: Officially you need a strong graphics card that supports DirectX; at least a 32MB RAM GeForce2. However, my 16MB ATI works fine. |

Blockinder
In Blockinder you are to smartly eliminate blocks in a spinning 3D cylinder. Its curvy rotating walls (that you control) are make up of these blocks of different colors. The longer continuous line of blocks you are able to match colorwise in one sweep, the higher you score. The excitement expands little by little as the cylinder vertically grows closer to the ceiling. Once it reaches the ceiling the game ends. This is the game's puzzling and apparently insoluble crux. But don't dispair - the game is very easy to play and it's up to you how advanced the gameplay will be. The graphics are clean although the background of the surrounding room feels a little too psychedelic for my old eyes.
NOTE: This game requires registration - which is free.

elu
Elu, meaning "life" in Estonian, is a simple life-simulator. There are several types of creatures, but the most prominent are the Metrites. There are several breeds of them, and they require spongus to eat. There is also a serpent that eats the Metrites.
However, you are also down there in the world. You are a Transcendent Metrite, and are ignored by other creatures. The Transcendent Metrite has the power to create Spongus, and can dissapear at will.
There is not much to do in this simulator, but it can be fun for a few minutes.

elu Undersea
elu Undersea is another life-simulator from clysm. This one, however, takes place underwater. The common life-form here is the Miropod. You are a Transcendent Miropod, and can leave Kalgae, which is eaten by the Miropods.
There are more exotic forms of life in this game, such as Jee-Carriers and Sea-Dragons. When a Miropod dies, it leaves a skeleton, which when bumped, turns to many particles. These are eaten by the Sea Dragon. Hemolites take the position of Carnivore.
But there is also an Arcade mode in this game. When activated, Plague Miropods infest the water in 15 increasingly difficult waves, infecting any creatures they touch, including Kalgae. You must then touch the infected beings to cure them. Once all plagued creatures are cured, the next wave begins. Upon completing the 15 waves, Moon fish cross the screen, as a sort of victory parade.
There is more to do in this simulator, and it can be fun for a while longer than it's predecessor.
