  Carom 3D
Just when you thought the best freeware PC pool game would be "Pool'em Up" for all times - Carom 3D supersedes them all! This game is enriched with countless of cool 3D effects. The authors of this South Korean game have even put lots of effort to create the proper virtual pool atmosphere surrounding the table. For instance, you have many different pool rooms to choose from and in each room you can spin the 3D camera around. A big WOW - and the actual gameplay hasn't even started yet! You can choose from many different setups such as 3-ball, 8-ball and 9-ball. This game is merely a multi-player online game which means that you need to stay connected the Internet to play. You have the option to chat with the other players. Any negative impressions? Well, in 1024x786 video resolution the text is hardly readable. Also, you need to register (although free of charge) to play the game. For those who are curious how the graphics in the game were created, they personally told us that they used Photoshop and 3D Studio Max.
PC REQUIREMENTS: 3D videocard, DirectX6

  CodeRED - Battle for Earth
Acid Arena Turbo, Spear Ressurection, Death Illustrated - scared yet? The months of March and April have taught us one thing about freeware: good freeware FPS's are possible, and CodeRED is no exception. CodeRED's storyline features your typical "aliens are coming" plot (in fact, you can get a mod at the author's homepage that makes the enemies look more like the aliens from "Mars Attacks!") with practically no twists. Of course, this is an FPS; the one special genre where a game can have a completely lackluster story and still come out on top. While CodeRED was made using the (now open-source) Quake 2 engine, you'll find it "borrows" a lot less from Quake 2 than Acid Arena Turbo does from Quake 3 Arena. Most of the weapons and levels are unique (and quite good, I might add). I didn't find myself saying "why am I playing Quake 2 all over again?"; it's a different experience and mood than Quake 2. Now on to the game play. CodeRED features some of the best, if not the best, game play I've ever seen in a freeware FPS. It's fast-paced and practically everything is well-executed. And the level design is especially incredible. It's not confusing, yet it still holds originality and difficulty. And, like you should in all FPSs, you can blow stuff up! I do have one complaint, though: like Quake 2, the default controls are awful. However, since they can be adjusted, I didn't even consider that in my rating. The graphics are very good, if not breathtaking. The explosions look great, as do the burning skeletons. The blood isn't as......goopy as Acid Arena Turbo, but it still serves its purpose. Your enemies look a little like the aliens from "Mars Attacks!" (and, as mentioned earlier, you can get a mod from the author's site that makes them look even more like the ones from the movie. I haven't personally tried the mod, so I can't comment on it). The wall and gun models are also fairly good. There is no music in CodeRED, but the sound effects are top-notch, from the blaster sounds, to the sirens. The sound your character makes everytime he jumps is a little irritating, but nothing that will give you a headache. The Bottom Line: CodeRED was the easiest 10/10 I've ever given out. Everything is excellent and I was far from disappointed. Download it. Now. Note 1: Only the lite version worked on my computer (the lite and extreme versions are together in the download). So, if the extreme version works on your computer, the game will probably be better than what I conveyed in this review. Note 2: Downloading this can be a bugger. It's surprisingly popular and, with its large size, it has maxed out some of its mirrors' bandwidth. The download link links to a page with several mirrors. You're on your own after that. Some of them require you to sign up, and some of them don't. I think I downloaded this from Gamer's Hell, but I can't be sure. Note 3: Source Code available in file.
PC REQUIREMENTS: Lite: 400 MHz, 128 RAM, 3D Accelerator. Extreme: 1.2 GHz, 256 RAM, High-res 3D Accelerator

  Crimsonland
This game presents an utmost PC game experience of cinematic action. The special effects and in particular the animative effects of the creatures in Crimsonland are abolutely stunning. You just want to immerse yourself deeper and deeper into the furious battle against the deadly alien creatures. The more you play, the more features and weapons will appear. The game has 2 game modes which are Career and Survivor - both fun in their own ways. An arsenal of about 20 weapons to pick up, such as bombs, plasmagun, rocket launcher, flame-thrower, provide lots of cool variety in the gameplay. I could expound at length upon the greatness of this game, but instead I simply advise you to download this game now and get hooked on Crimsonland! The latest update (v1.40) includes bug fixes and tweaks.
PC REQUIREMENTS: 3D accelerated vidoecard, DirectX 8.1

  DDCK: Myth of Creation
Wow. This game is great. You control the last sane god and must fight against an unknown enemy by summoning elemental creatures to aid you. You can choose to be good or evil. As RTS (Real-Time Strategy) games go, this game is relatively simple yet it is incredibly fun nonetheless. To enable movies in DDCK, an optional 15MB Cinematics Pack can be downloaded. Click here to download it. Another download location is available on the homepage if the download is too slow. Download links to download page.
